City Tech design department opens new HQ, announces BFA program

Faculty, staff, students and friends of New York City College of Technology’s Department of Communication Design cut the ribbon on the department’s renovated home inside the college’s Pearl Building at 259 Adams St. on Thursday. 

At the same time, the college also held an information session about its new BFA program, which prepares students for careers as art directors, graphic designers, illustrators and web designers. The degree program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Read More >

Veteran master letterer Tony Di Spigna has an exhibition, “Imported From Brooklyn,” now on view at The Grace Gallery organized by the Communication Design Department, New York City College of Technology, where he will be donating his archive to City Tech and it will become the department’s first permanent collection. I spoke to Douglas Davis, Associate Professor who conceived of the exhibit (curated by Sara Woolley-Gomez) about Di Spigna’s significance to lettering history and for today’s student. I get tired of fielding questions around how to get more clients, so I’ve decided to write an article on things you need to do right now before going online and asking, “Help. How do I get more clients?”

Before you go hire a business coach or sales person, enroll in an online course, follow a get rich quick scheme, do this first. Warning, this is a long list of things to do. No easy answers, no quick fixes, but the bare minimum of what you need to do before looking for more help. Remember, people hire who they know, who they like and who they trust.
