CSUN / Intersect:LA invites Douglas Davis to Summer Creative Bootcamp

January 26, 2019

Dave Moon, Program Director and Professor within the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication at CSUN invited me to be keynote speaker and facilitator of a workshop. Professor Moon was already using my methodology in his classes. I accepted because CSUN and City Tech share the same role in the social mobility of minority communities. I designed an eight hour workshop for 40 students using my book Creative Strategy and the Business of Design. I had so much fun and it was clear that this was the first of many east meets west collaborations.

At Lead by Design, the AIGA Leadership Retreat, National D&I Taskforce Co-Chairs ask : Do I Belong?

January 26, 2019

This conference of 300 chapter presidents, Diversity and Inclusion reps and board members happens annually for the purpose of training the leaders. AIGA is going through a culture shift and membership growth is a particular challenge as professionals question the value of the organization.

As a Co-Chair of the task-force I presented messaging on inclusion. The premise being that just as our clients come to us with various forms of the exact same question when they ask for an identity, or a new site or campaign, They’re really asking you “What should I do?” Because they want you to solve their problem. Designers with a multitude of individual needs are coming to AIGA asking, “Do I belong?”

My Co-Chair Phim Her, then introduced her thoughts on change management using (late)Professor David Garvin of the Harvard Business School’s thoughts on systems organization. Phim ended by leading an exercise illustrating how many different perspectives groups must navigate to organize around inclusion.

March 19, 2018

How can you solve a creative problem for a client if you don’t speak the same language? In this exclusive Q&A, designer, educator, speaker and author Douglas Davis draws from his book, Creative Strategy & The Business of Design, to show how designers and marketers can avoid getting lost in translation

If you’ve ever heard back about a pitch you didn’t land and wondered why the client didn’t understand your brilliant solution, you may need to learn a new language. That language is called Marketing, and it’s creeping into every conversation you have as a creative person. Read the Article >
